YK (Yong Kiat) is an avid aviation enthusiast and a keen scale modeller. He started modelling in 1973 when he bought his first kit, a 1/72 scale Airfix Boomerang, and that’s when his interests in aviation took off.

He joined the RSAF in 1979 and served in various appointments for 23 years. He left the RSAF in 2002 and currently is in the aviation industry.

Whilst his scale modelling has slowed substantially over the years, he continues to be engaged with the local communities of modellers. His interests in local aviation, and the dearth of information of the local scene, have resulted in him constantly researching and learning of the progress of aviation in Singapore. YK shares his knowledge of the Singapore aviation scene through his published works and occasional talks, besides sessions at club meets.

His first book "At the Leading Edge - 30 Years of Air Logistics" has been followed by several major publications, including a well-researched book on the first 100 years of aviation in Singapore (“Where Lions Fly”), published in 2012, and a comprehensive analysis of the RSAF to commemorate its 50th Anniversary in 2018 ("Defending Our Skies").

He continues writing on Singapore-focussed aviation and strives to ensure his books are always filled with rare and interesting photographs, many of which are published for the first time.

YK will be happy to answer any queries you have on the RSAF. Just fill out the box below and he will get back to you. Please note that as he has a busy work and family routine, he asks you to be patient if the response is not immediate!
